26-06-2018 On June 22nd around seventy people gathered for the NextFashion conference which celebrated all the people working on innovations in clothing and textiles for over five years. The meeting was held at the State of Fashion exhibition in Arnhem and powered by CLICKNL. Lucie Huiskens from ArtEZ and me (from Modint) took the audience through a varied program of speakers who addressed “innovation” from inside and outside our fashion businesses and from very different perspectives.
After a welcome by ArtEZ lector Jeroen van den Eijnde, Jelle Stienstra, Digital Strategy Consultant at ISAACVR talked about the potential (or already existing) developments in hyper personalisation and virtual reality in Fashion. The topic raised many questions about the role of designers, privacy and the sustainability of completely new business models.
Erick Wuestmann of Circles then shared his experiences in deploying the power of networks. Whichever network we examine in circular economy or elsewhere, they all face the same problems of accumulating enough volumes and taking off the “unprofitable top” of innovative outputs.
Kamiel Maase, Performance Manager Sport Science & Innovation the Dutch Olympic Team NL provided insight into what is needed to maximize the performance of athletes. Nutrition, training and rest are supported by the right materials and clothing. At the Tokyo Olympics it will be very hot and humid, so the audience was challenged to come up with good ideas for cooling athletes before, during and after their great performances.
The value of the network
Finally, Danielle Bruggeman, lector at ArtEZ, spoke warm words to Lucie Huiskens, coordinator of CLICKNL|NextFashion for over five years and thanked CLICKNL, the Province of Gelderland and the City of Arnhem for supporting the network.
The core parties of the network, AMFI/HvA, Saxion, TMO, ArtEZ and Modint daily experience the value of the network. The banner was therefore handed from ArtEZ to Patric Hanselman of Modint, the organisation that will continue the coordination of the network.
With Lucie, no fear!
After drinks and bites the party visited the State of Fashion exposition guided by curator José Teunissen, who was also founder of the NextFashion network. The exhibition is still open until July 22, go there!
The conference showed how a network depends on connecting people who share values and ideas, who are willing to work on the same projects from completely different angles, who want to meet and exchange. As the NL NextFashion & Textiles network and Modint, we sincerely hope to enable this in the years ahead.
My personal takeaway? For the best performance you need good food and a good sleep….
Thanks to all.
