29-11-2018 – With many thanks to Lucie Huiskens, the Dutch Delegation and to video reporter Thijs Adriaans, we are proud to present to you the final video-report of the Knowledge Exchange Programme during the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2018. Lucie was hired by RvO ( Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) for this project and together with Modint, RvO, the Dutch Embassy in Colombo and Sri Lanka’s Academy Of Design (AOD) we set up a wonderful program for a Dutch delegation visiting Sri Lanka in November 2018.
We really feel it gives a good overview of the knowledge that we shared and that it will be a great support in communicating the AOD ambitions building the design innovation platform and moving forward in becoming a design innovation hotspot in South Asia. We will be very happy to support the capacity of AOD and see much potential in the added value of developing further partnerships.
Or watch the three parts separately:
The first is about garments and textiles and reports on the great field trips we made. We visited a handloom village and two model garment factories. In all cases “design” plays a very important role in developing the business. the design of beautiful textiles for sari’s in a very traditional way on one side and the far-developed virtual design of clothes for USA brands on the other. Watch part 1. >>
Part two is a report from the Knowledge Exchange Roundtable in which we discussed the Dutch experience as an effort to strengthen the of the Sri Lanka design innovation culture. Watch part 2. >>
The third video reports on the workshops CIRCO gave on redesigning products and services from a sustainable and circular perspective. Watch part 3. >>
Already, lessons are taken from this trip towards a project Modint is developing with our colleague organisation PRGMEA and with United Nations UNIDO in Pakistan. AOD from Sri Lanka expresses the ambition to connect to the fashion industry in other countries in South Asia. There, with our partners from PI.D Netherlands and China, we will explore the possibilities to establish a fashion design and innovation centre in Lahore. More countries have these kinds of ambitions, which is good for the local industries on one side and for the collaboration in sourcing from the Dutch point of view. Of course, IAF plays an important role too, so 2019 will be about joining the dots!
