Voluntary EU Green Public Procurement (GPP) criteria for textile products and services already exists to help public authorities make purchases with reduced environmental impacts. Mandatory GPP criteria for textiles are expected to be proposed as part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (EPSR).
Timeline
The European Commission is expected to introduce mandatory GPP criteria under the future ESPR Delegated Act for textiles, due by 2024. The Commission’s Joint Research Centre launched a preparatory study in Q2 2023 to provide scientific evidence to support the criteria development.
